Preschool Storyhour

This week's storytime stressed Print Motivation. Print Motivation is a child's interest in and enjoyment of books. Children who enjoy books will want to learn how to read. Today's stories were picked for the sake of having fun with books. Froggy Gets Dressed is filled with silly dialogue. Curious George is a favorite with many children.

A few tips for building Print Motivation at home:

1. Make book sharing time special--a time for just you and your child.

2. Let your child see you reading books, magazines or newspapers that you enjoy.

3. Remember that the enjoyment of reading is what's important. If your child is tired or uninterested, don't force the book time. Keep it fun! You don't have to finish the book. Even a few minutes is fine.

Stories today were about winter and snow in celebration of the Winter Olympics. Check out the official Olympics web page for additional activites for children: Vancouver 2010.
