Toddler Time

Print Motivation was the Every Child Ready to Read skill stressed in storytime in April. Print Motivation is enjoying books and reading. When you make reading with your child fun, they will want to learn to read, which will make it mush easier for them to learn to read!
In Toddler Time we shared the book, Is Your Mama a Llama? by Deborah Guarino. One phrase that is repeated throughout the book is, "Is your mama a llama? The children practiced saying this phrase and then we said it together throughout the book.
You can do the same thing when you read to your child by encouraging her to say a repeated phrase with you. Look for other ways to involve him in the story, such as guessing what will come next in the story or making animal sounds, and so on. When children are involved in the reading of a story, they enjoy the book more. Children who enjoy being read to will want to learn how to read on their own. Research has shown that this positive attitude toward reading helps children learn to read more easily.
